Exactly and i think (maybe you too) that this the wrong way.hiro23 wrote:I think all bands feel the need to get rid of the monotany.

This is a matter of taste.DayDreamer wrote:Sure!hiro23 wrote:I'm not sure what you mean, could you explain?
I mean that bands become way too progressive and pseudo-complex recently, they just try to be something they are not.
I've got to agree. I think power metal in special has been going through some trouble in the past 3 or 5 years, I hope this trend is reversed this year with a great release by Stratovarius. Stratovarius did reinvent the genre once, they could as well save it now again...DayDreamer wrote:I mean that bands become way too progressive and pseudo-complex recently, they just try to be something they are not.
The same can be said about all genres. Like Jens says, all western music is based on the same 12 notes. Sounding fresh after years on the road is a challange and it does take experimentation, but there's a balance that must be accounted for.Ragehead91 wrote:But let's be honest here: We're talking about Power Metal. What more can you do in this genre? It is pretty hard to keep a qood level of quality without getting repetitive.
That's also a very good point. How often have you heard people saying that Ecliptica, Silence and Winterheart's Guild all sound the same? To me they're clearly different in many aspects, especially WG when compared to the other two.icecab21 wrote:it seems a lot of variation gets called repitition though. there are plenty of bands that never literly repeat a previus song notewise yet have people say the songs sound the same.
