Hey!

I've been wondering if there are any other people here who like the band Europe. (Yes the band that made The Final Countdown...) :P

The Final Countdown is one of their most known songs. But they have lots of other albums with lots of better songs than The Final Countdown.

And there is a brand new album coming out in August/September this year! :D

So are there some people who like Europe here?

I listened to a best of album of those guys once and the solo album of the bassist with Mats Leven singing. I think he called it Southpaw. Great stuff.

I think Out of This World is the best Europe album. It has some great 'hard' songs like Ready or Not and Just The Beginning. But also some nice ballads, especially Coast to Coast and Sing of The Times.

Europe is one of my favorite bands. I absolutely love Joey tempest's voice. The band is definitely influential in power metal with those super melodic epic anthems. i heard the next album will have 70s rock vibes with influences such as thin lizzy so i'm looking forward to that.

They are definately a big influence to the Melodic Metal Scene. The piano-intro of Sign of The Times could also be a Sonata Arctita song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M111Ia3YKCA
(At least I allways think of Sonata Arctica when I hear Sign of The times :P )

The guys from Europe said that the next album will be a real Europe album. So I'm really waiting for that! :D

The bands forum put together a tribute album and that had some great stuff and they also released tracks that were not put on the album.

Sing of the time is definitely one of my favorite songs. I try and find all the live I can of it since Joey changes up the bridge from time to time and it's so beautiful.

If I'm not mistaken, Pagan's Mind recorded a cover of The Final Countdown.

Europe I think is a great band, though I would have ditched those glittery outfits in the 80's, I think that's one of the reasons they get slammed so much.
They have very strong songs and are great musicians they shouldn't have tried to lump themselves in with the hair bands cause unfortunatly because of that people look at them and automatically assume "oh they are one of those bands" which if you hear their songs they clearly are not.

They are one of the originators of modern power metal in my opinion.

John Norum is a fantastic guitar player. I don't know them all too well but they're really a quality act.

For the longest time Europe had dropped off my radar completely until 2006's Secret Society crept up and stunned me with just how good they sound.

You're right, I got Vision Divine and Pagan's Mind messed... Pagan's Mind didn't release a cover of The Final Countdown, Vision Divine did.

I know someone else has put this, but it is a pretty sick cover, by Vision Divine. It was actually one of the main songs on their first self titled album, about mid-way through. Check out the bands other songs if you liked the cover:

I allready feared that opening a thread about Europe would start a conversation about The Final Countdown...

But Europe has al lot of better songs:

Coast to Coast
Ready or Not
Sign of The Times
All or Nothing
Got to Have Faith
Always The Pretenders
Secret Society

and lots more...

Just search them on YouTube.

To me there is no such thing as one song being better than another. They are each their own independent entity and can be explored in different ways. For a functional example, Final countdown is a song I use for sports more than any other Europe song, and homeland is a song I use for some reflection more than other Europe songs.

Well I am not aware of many sports teams playing the other songs to create the adrenaline rush that the teams get from final countdown.

On another topic with Europe I really enjoy the force demos and the le baron boys. I think it's unfortunate that those won’t be rerecorded for a studio sound.
