Sammet: The next Avantasia "will surely piss people off

Disney has plenty of acts that have not become as successful. The marketing is only part of what makes an act successful. An audience has to embrace the music/performers. People have a choice for what they listen to. These acts compete in a competitive marketplace. Music is subjective so the best performers are not necessary the best entertainers. People have the free will to listen and purchase what they want.

What bands have made it without the backing of a company or other form of marketing? Are those bands the best musicians with the best material?

NOFX is one band that has sold millions without being on a major, is their music something you would consider high quality?

I really like early Edguy and "the metal operas" are among the best power metal albums I've ever listened to. Yet every time I read an interview with Tobias it seems to me that he hates himself for being so cheesy in the past and now wants to screw his own legacy and move on. He's always so aggressive and bitter towards his past works, it's like calling you stupid for enjoying the cheesy power metal songs he composed.

And don't bullshit me about how he's creating something new which is always good and that he only wanted to change and that people who complain about this latest works are frustrated and should open their minds and blah blah blah. I go to Edguy and Avantasia concerts and I know that the crowd reacts exactly the same way I do: we show support, but we're significantly quieter when they play newer songs. There's a reason for that. No, it's not because we haven't learned the lyrics yet. It's because the songs suck.

Hiro, can you please tell me what you're talking about? Where did he say that someone who listens to the new stuff is a retard? He said that while reading recent interviews with Sammet he feels like Sammet is calling his fans stupid for liking his old stuff and that unless you're retarted, you can learn a chorus after listening to the song for 3 or 4 times. And with Edguy this is true. These refrains basicly beg the listener to sing along. Nowhere is he saying or implying that you're stupid for liking the new song.

ERIC SINGER, ALEX HOLZWARTH To Appear On New AVANTASIA Album - Aug. 8, 2009
Acclaimed drummers Eric Singer (KISS, ALICE COOPER, BLACK SABBATH) and Alex Holzwarth (RHAPSODY OF FIRE, ANGRA, SIEGES EVEN) will both appear on the forthcoming album from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project.

Commented Tobias: "Eric has played on many tracks [for the upcoming AVANTASIA CD], but we have composed some more. Problem was that now he is busy with KISS, they do a new album and they are on tour, and I couldn't talk him into quitting KISS and getting his priorities straight. [Laughs]"

He added, "Alex has been a longtime friend and he's a superb drummer, very different style.

"Eric is your Cozy Powell kind of thunderous rock drummer, Alex's drum work is more nimble and as the remaining songs were quite fast, Alex is a great choice. Both drummers are awesome musicians and great guys. And both are members of my extended family.

"Depending on the amount of coming material there may be a third drummer on the album; who knows? We got a lot of songs and as long as they are great, we will keep producing. People should expect a 10-disc collection in 2017. [Laughs]"

Great news! The drummer brother Holzwarth was awesome on Metal Operas! But, Eric Singer impressed me in the fast songs (rather song) on The Scarecrow as well. It seems an old dog can learn new tricks.

Sascha will be there of course as he'll produce the stuff. It's more like Sammet/Paeth together now. Anything else I don't know. I wouldn't mind Henjo being there for the fourth time though; he's hell of a guitarist.

Just because he produces it doesn't mean he'll also do guitar. And to me it looks more like he'll use a big bunch of Guitarists instead of Using Sascha and a few guests for additional stuff.
