SAXON: 'Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie' Nearing Completion

Post by Ragehead91 » Sat Aug 08, 2009 10:31 am

U.K.'s Coolhead Productions is putting the finishing touches on a new documentary about the legendary British heavy metal band SAXON called "Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie". The film, which is expected to be released in November, celebrates the group's 30th anniversary. Produced by the makers of the critically acclaimed "Ian Gillan: Highway Star" (Universal, 2007), it not only has contributions from members of SAXON, past and present, but also from the likes of Lars Ulrich (METALLICA); Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke, Phil Campbell, Mikkey Dee (MOTÖRHEAD); Harvey Goldsmith, Danko Jones, Doro Pesch and many, many others. It will also feature plenty of rare archive material and previously unseen concert footage, from the classic 1980s lineup to the brilliant St. George's Day show in 2008 and Wacken Open Air in 2009. A special limited edition of "Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie" will contain a feature-length documentary, at least two never-before-seen concert films and plenty of revealing extra content.

A two-minute trailer for the documentary can be viewed below.

Yeah! It's about time they get a documentary! Maiden has one or two, Priest has one or two. So why not them? Back in the day they were propably as big as were Maiden and Priest.

Maiden hasn't released anything good since Bruce returned and the last Judas Priest album was lame.

Brave New World was awesome IMO. DOD and AMOLAD not so much, good songs on there, but I never really got into them.

And yea everything's Saxon's released since Solid Ball of Rock has kicked ass. I just LOVE their riffs.

It's just my opinion

I think maiden never does a bad album, Judas priest has also stayed pretty solid in my opinion and Saxon I number among them.

however if you don't like them that's okay and it still won't affect my opinion of you.

Yeah. A few ppl always talk about 2 bad albums. They say that they're called "A Kind of MAgic" and "Destiny". I dunno what they're talking about. I've never heard of those albums (*hint*selective amnesia*hint)

@ Icecab
I don't give a shit about what critics say. In my Opinion Maiden didn't release anything good since Bruce is back. In my opinion Nostradamus was boring as shit. Of the big three of the NWoBHM Saxon is in my opinion the only one who still releases kick-ass albums.

I think Innocence Is No Excuse was also weak. But who cares, really. When they toured here in 2000, I remember they did an interview at a radio station and Biff said that during that time they tried to go a little "commercial" but it just didn't work out at all. Glad they went back to doing what they do best.

I think Innocence is No Excuse was the last decen Saxon album until 1990 or 1991 when Solid Ball of Rock was released.

Anyway, can you tell my what went wrong when they recorded "The Eagle has landed Part III"? Most of the stuff on those CDs sounds like very good bootleg quality at best.

so far , after listening to forever free though into the labyrinth, the only two songs I have liked, are hold on and valley of the kings. I do hope they make their next album more like valley of the kings.

No idea. I agree, the sound quality could have been 10 times better. Part 2, however, sounds awesome. It just sounds great in my car :D

I unfortunately didn't get into Saxon until last year, I'm glad I did though, Saxon to me is like AC/DC they've been making the same album for years, not that it's a bad thing cause their tried and true formula has worked very well for them.
I think they kick much ass
