Another interesting band is Venturia. It's very progressive, almost "aerial" sometimes.
Unfortunately this band is not very known, despite they had the help of Adagio's keyboardist and that they're all full of talents.

X-Wild. The Band was founded in 1993 and was, apart from their singer, made up of ex-members of Running Wild (Axel Morgan on guitars, Jens Becker on bass and Stefan Schwarzmann on Bass). They released 3 solid albums but sadly split in 1997 after one of their promotors disappeared with all of their money. I doubt that anyone here will like the singer. He is like a mix-up of Udo Dirkschneider from U.D.O. and Accept and Rock'n'Rolf from Running Wild.

Kalmah
This is propably my favourite Melodic Death Metal Band. It was founded in 1991 as Ancestor by Pekka Kokko and Petri Sankala. In 1998 after releasing a few demos and EPs they changed ther name to Kalmah, which isKarelian and translates to "to the grave" or "to the death". Their music is, as mentioned above, Melodic Death Metal and features elements of Neo Classical Metal and Thrash Metla on the last 2 albums. If you like good Metal and have no problem with growling you should check those guys out:

Mechanical Poet, an excellent prog. metal band from Russia. Nowadays they sound more like Fall Out Boy, but their earlier work, especially Woodland Prattlers -album sound really amazing:

Bogie In A Coal-Hole (it's a lot better than the name would suggest. :D): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eth-TSf445E
Stormchild: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgYTYgXCLgw

Sabaton, Swedish "war metal" band. I don't know if they are really underrated TBH, I'm getting old and losing touch on what the "kids these days" listen to. They're are relatively young band and if you haven't heard of them, I strongly advice that you do so.

Sabaton aren't underrated at all. At least most of the "kids these days" I know who decided to dig a bit deeper into the soil of metal, beyond sutff like Korn, Slipknot, Bullshit for My Gayhotline, Linkin Park and so on, know who Sabaton are.

IronFire
IronFire is a Danish Power Metal band fronted by Martin Steen. He is the creative head of the band and the only stable member of the band as their line-up changes very much. In 2003 they went on a hiatus because Steen joined the Band Force of Evil, a band that is apart from him made up of former Mercyful Fate and King Diamond members. After releasing 2 albums with this band, the project was put on hold and Steen returned to Iron Fire in 2006. This band makes pure, balls to the wall Power Metal. I mean REALLY pure and balls to the wall. You won't find any sort of fancy lead keyboard or pompous Orchester or long, progressive songs. This is pure Power Metal at it's best. They're worth checking out.

Mystic Prophecy.

One of Gus G's projects before he focused all his time on Firewind, the band moved on in a more aggressive direction and... well, take a listen.

Hi!

For me Elvenking is underrated but correct me if I am wrong.
(they sell their own CD after concert and they played 2 covers in Brno). They awesome and it's my second favorite band after Strato.

Their single videoclip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od4_L35hUTo:
Some material from "Winter Wake"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc8sLJgM4EU
And from their last cd

Sabaton is pretty known (in Poland) and I'm going to see them in the end of August (they play with Strato)

Mystic Prophecy are awesome. Maybe one of the best Power Metal Bands around today. A shame that they more or less lost all attention as soon as Gus left.

And the last Elvenking Album "The Scytche" sucks. Don't buy it. The acoustic Album after the Scytche and everything that came before it ist good but the Scytche is bad. Powercore...

I wouldn't say Elvenking is underrated...I'm not a fan at all, I have Heathenreel and I very rarely listen to it, but I guess those who like and want to share their passion for the band manage to do it. I guess you know the band if you're really interested...

Illuminate is a band I've listened a lot to these days, I don't know if you'll like it because it's kind of soft-indus, it's a special atmosphere, but I really enjoy it.
They sing in German.

Iron Savior
They're a Speed/Power Metal Band foinded by Piet Sielck, who played with Helloween before they were Helloween, and Kai Hansen. Kai Hansen left the band after they released their third album. Very good band.

No one has mentioned Heavenly from France, Adagio (the video for fear circus kills!) also from France, Circus Maximus from Sweden, (I think) Spheric Universe Experience, Cellador from Good ol Nebraska  , Fairyland, Azrael from Japan, (Concerto Moon, Galneryus, and Ark storm already mentioned) Dark Moor has good stuff, Virtuosity from Finland is good, Excalion and Twilighting are also good.
Anything Richard Andersson does is freakin sweet. Also, I've heard some incredible unsigned bands on myspace, one from Mexico that stands out but I can't recall the name.

They're doing pretty well, their new guitarist Constantine (coincidentally, also Greek) is awsome and they have pretty good chart success within Germany and surrounding countries. They do deserve more attention though.

Reviving this topic.

These are some of the bands I found recently. The Japanese really seem to be getting into power/neoclassical metal!

- Alhambra (Japan; already mentioned by Jens, but I thought it would be a good idea to post something here). The amazing Yuhki from Ark Storm and Galneryus plays keyboards. Nice solos on this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf2e0Rc2beM
http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=120584

- Area51 (Japan). I like this female singer better than the one from Alhambra. She has a "penetrating" sustained voice with almost no vibrato:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-QPKb0tI4E
http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=46509

- Balflare (Japan):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6T5xDRF5eo
http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=72160

- Unlimited (Vietnam):

Video clip of previous song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kbQYmm4aPo

- Crown of Glory (Switzerland):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_E4x4velGg
http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=2193

- Emir Hot (Bosnia and Herzegovina). The singer is none other than John West. This band supposedly has an Eastern European theme going on (musically speaking). The album is titled "Sevdah Metal" and, according to a description I found on youtube, "Sevdah is the traditional Bosnian music which expresses pure love and longing emotions":

- Epiclore (Finland). Cute, tranquil metal:

- HolyHell (U.S.). This band is probably better known than the other ones. I read they are from New York, but I'm sure Maria Breon isn't. She has a southern accent (notice how she pronounces "life", "light", "sky", etc.). Cute accent. :D :
EDIT: Oh yeah, and the keyboardist is Mexican.

- Kyrie Eleison (Argentina). I'm pretty sure I posted this one before, but whatever. I love the lyrics to the song "Children of Pain". This song talks about poverty among street children in Argentina. It applies well to the current climate of increasing insecurity in the country. Listen to it here:

- Toccata Magna (Brazil). The singer could be better, but I really like the elements borrowed from Andean music, which is actually Bolivian, Peruvian, and Ecuadorian, but I guess Brazil is close enough. :P. Too bad I could only find one song.

So far I have resisted the temptation to post bands with Spanish lyrics, but since I have posted bands with Japanese lyrics, I might as well go for it.
