Re: Better Guitarist
I just can't find any funniness in this kind of stuff... For example Floyd's guitarist David Gilmour has been more or less fatso for last years also but hey, aren't those Pink Floyd fellows just "faceless" ? Saves from a lot of stuff of this level that i suppose.Burn1ng_R@g3 wrote:

Repeat this same poll in 10 years.
Re: Better Guitarist
Oh please, I'll not be a liar, of course that I prefer Timo, I love his music & the way he play the guitar solos!
I don't saw Matias live yet, but I have saw many live videos & I don't liked the way he changed the guitar solos on Stratovarius old songs!

I like them both, so I can't say who's better.

Re: Better Guitarist
I can't vote. I saw a Matias solo one time in YouTube, and he's just a god. But the way Timo plays sometimes specially slow deep solos is just second to none. Both are just great.
No need to feel so afraid, colors last a lifetime and fade to gray...

People! We not discus about Tolkki's and Kupiainen's songs, we discus who is better guitarist. Personaly I like Tolkki's songs, but Kupiainen has rather class. Kupiainen is better guitarist, then Tollki, but Tolkki is better composer, then Kupiainen. Time will show...

Yea but that's probably because Matias is playing somebody else's solo, which I've never felt is a good way to judge the guitarist. Tolkki wrote those solos for him, so they're played in his style, with his technique...
It's too soon to say which is 'better.' Give Stratovarius a couple more albums, or at least give Matias a few more years before you compare. Tolkki is a legend, after all, and Matias is filling big shoes...

Tolkki...
I voted on Timo, basically because how his way of playing inspired me when I started playing the guitar (like fifteen years ago). So, I'm a bit biased.
Technically, I like the stuff that Matias does, reminds me a bit of MJR. I really hope that he "finds his style" even more for forthcoming albums.
(BTW, the intro to "Forever is today" is really cool, especially that thing he plays "on his own" before the song kicks in at it's full),

Matias is not filling anyones shoes. He has his own shoes. He has own style and it is perfect.Empathica1928 wrote:Yea but that's probably because Matias is playing somebody else's solo, which I've never felt is a good way to judge the guitarist. What if we translated thing upside down. How TT would play songs and solos what Matias has made? I think, not the same way like Matias. Own style.
