Don´t agree. Saw them few times live this year and high notes - also in Father time - were all rightrikkertje wrote:I just watched some videos of Father Time played live in 2009 and I have to come to the conclusion that TK's high voice sounds terrible these days. His high notes just don't have the power of a few years ago anymore. He's a very good singer and I only have respect for him. But he should leave the really high songs out of the set in the future. That would really improve the quality of their shows.
Plus you might have seen them in a very small period of time. If a singer has, like, a flue, he might be bad that day, and might not exactly shine the next day either.icecab21 wrote:I don't get the "i saw a couple of shows, he was bad, therefore he is bad ad ALL shows" logic that some people like to use. That is too small a sample size.
Also Forever Is Today is extra good with clean vocals in my opinion.GuiHunter wrote:Folks, I have to say that to me, Kotipelto made an amazing work on Elements Pt1 with some difficult songs to sing like Find Your Own Voice and Learning to Fly and so on... I didn't say he doesn't reach the high notes. Sure he does, but to me those high notes lack power and emotion. The used to sound powerfull but the last few years (since 2007) they just sound weak to me.sheryl1 wrote:Don´t agree. Yeah he pulls them off on Destiny really well and there are some really demanding parts on Anthem of the World for example.Intiaani wrote:Also Forever Is Today is extra good with clean vocals in my opinion.GuiHunter wrote:Folks, I have to say that to me, Kotipelto made an amazing work on Elements Pt1 with some difficult songs to sing like Find Your Own Voice and Learning to Fly and so on... Actually the album has many singing styles in it. Love the narration-like on Emancipation Suites too.
I just came to think of it, but isn't Destiny about as demanding as Elements, Pt. 1? Somehow the singing goes to your ear like a rocket on Elements, and it doesn't show that much on Destiny at first. That album is high and demanding as hell anyway, if you pay a close attention to it.
His vocals are great... except for the high notes.nefertari wrote:His vocals are still great as live , like in here

For example in the video you posted. In the chorus: 'I will waste no more time, let me tell you my friends, all dreams come to an end. Forever is today'.
You can't deny that the parts that I made fat sound really bad. More like a chicken than a man singing...
His lower voice has a lot of power and sounds really good. But those high notes are just plain rediculous for me.
Hah! Like a chiken was meant as a extreme example. But yes, those vocals ARE bad. It's off-key and there's nothing in it. No power, no emotion. Nothing... just a few high shrieks...nefertari wrote:rikkertje wrote:His vocals are great... except for the high notes.nefertari wrote:His vocals are still great as live , like in here

It's indeed better than Forever is Today. But for me it's not REALLY good. Also this song lacks the power it had some years ago.Drvanger wrote:And what about this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N43N-2W8msrikkertje wrote:Hah! I think his high notes in the chorus are really good.
+1. He is the best.Arkash wrote:But first: the alien voice, the singing from somewhere else: the master: Roy Khan.
I feel sorry for what I say now (as I was defending TK few posts upper)... Objectively, that video - Forever is today - which was sent here as an illustration of high notes properly sang, ehm, proved that there´s something true on what rikkertje says...Though I don´t agree with everything you say, but those "shrieks" are really annoying...I used to compare that strange notes to barking of my pissed puppy... I mean, just watch choruses in father time at wacken 2007 if you didn´t get my meaningrikkertje wrote: Hah! Like a chiken was meant as a extreme example. But yes, those vocals ARE bad. ...I just hope soooo much he won´t sing the songs this "not-my-favourite" way in january when Strato´s come here to play...
Don´t know if this reffers to what I wrote or not...Anyway, my opinion is based on my personal feeling from what I saw live, not videos... Actually I was thinking of this a lot and the only explanation I came to is that probably TK cannot give 10000% performance every day - logical, he would be "out of voice" in few shows - and thus it may seem better from his point of view at least to try reaching those high notes (by shrieks) than to transpose the songs lower. Or maybe noticecab21 wrote:It’s obvious that he makes a personal point to make his voice sound like nothing, a chicken, or a barking puppy at any change he gets.
How do you know he does it so often when there are only videos for a small percentage of shows?
I have nothing to add. You say exactly what I mean.RazielSR wrote:I was here some days ago saying that rikkertje was not right about what he was saying regarding Tk's vocals nowadays.
I thought it was because it was the first shows and he was ill, etc, etc. But now I'm seeing that something wrong is happening with his voice.
I don't know what and why. He is just 40 and a lot of singers keep his voice really well even at 50. But Kotipelto is suffering terrible high notes problems. And he was the main influence in hight notes if we talk about power metal. It's sad. I just hope to see him improving his voice again.
Then you have Polaris. In Polaris he doesn't use a lot of high notes, but you can hear very high notes on some songs and it's really ok. In GTF he singns the way he used to sing. I like a lot the way he sings there, anyway I don't like the album.
If you see Strato videos from 2006, he was singing really well as always. And now 3 years later he is not singing like that. I'd like to know what's happening.
