Re: Question about Sonata arctica
I think that could be about right. Maybe more since they're pretty succesful lately.
Re: Question about Sonata arctica
i'm sure a smaller number than what has been downloaded. that seems to be the general case in music these days. the guys said they could get kits of fans in areas where they have not sold as many cds.
Re: Question about Sonata arctica
Indeed, that's true of basically all artists these days.icecab21 wrote:i'm sure a smaller number than what has been downloaded. that seems to be the general case in music these days.

Re: Question about Sonata arctica
But would those who downloaded it actually buy it if they didn't have the possibility to download it? This is the big flaw in the "It has been downloaded 2.000.000 times! We could've sold 2.000.000 copys of if! Would those who have downloaded it actually buy it? If some downloads, let's say, the lates Metallica album. Who knows if he would've bought it anyway? I think if we somehow could ban downloading completely I guess the number of sold CDs, Movies, Software, Games and what not would go up a bit but I doubt that more than 10% of the 2 million people who downloaded the CD/Movie/Software/Game would've also bought it.icecab21 wrote:i'm sure a smaller number than what has been downloaded.

I agree nowadays. At least on my part downloading music has increased my record buying hundreds of percents.Ragehead91 wrote:But would those who downloaded it actually buy it if they didn't have the possibility to download it? Re: Question about Sonata arctica
Downloading increases concert and merchandise sales. Of course only a percentage of the downloader’s buy the cd. Some put more money into merchandise and concerts. A lot of people would buy if they had the money, but it's cheaper to pay for a few concerts than buy the cd of every band. The mp3s are lower quality than a cd so I don't consider it the same product as buying a cd though. We also have online single track downloads where people will buy the few tracks they like from an album instead of the whole thing. I don't think I have found a cd yet of any band where I would separately buy every track. Bands just have to hope sales in other areas covers cd sales losses. I'm sure there are places where they win and places where they lose in this. there are also the cases of one person buying a cd, showing it to 10, and the ten all buy tickets and so on.

Re: Question about Sonata arctica
Isn't that what most of the bands say anyway nowadays? At least I heard in a lot of interviews that the bands nowadays make more money from touring than from CD sales.
Re: Question about Sonata arctica
Definitely more from a tour. Ill have to look it up but I’m not sure a band could make from a tour than cd sales at anytime of history. Always shifts in the industry those open and close doors. Bands get less label support but more opportunity to break without huge label support.
Just read an article about how u2 was able to spend more than 300 million on a tour before breaking even.
if they could spend 300 million producing a cd that made money i would love to see that.

Which is even more "wrong" than downloading.icecab21 wrote:there are also the cases of one person buying a cd, showing it to 10, and the ten all buy tickets and so on.
