Dead Pro Wrestlers Tribute Thread

Post by Ragehead91 » Thu Dec 31, 2009 3:04 am

Since it has becam a sad trend for Pro Wrestlers to die very young, I'm going to make a whole thread dedicated to them.

Sadly, today another Wrestler passed away:
Image
WRESTLING star 'Dr Death' Steve Williams has died after a long battle with throat cancer, aged 49.

A posting on his official MySpace site, maintained by a close pal, reads: " I regret to inform you that our good friend Steve Williams has lost his battle with cancer.

"I do not have all the facts other than he passed some time last night.

"I'm sure he would like to thank all you for your prayers.

"His fans meant everything to him. I will post info as I receive it."

Williams was a star all around the world in the 1980s and 1990s, including stints in WWE and WCW.

He was well respected throughout the industry with a reputation as being legitimately one of the toughest men to step foot inside the wrestling ring as well as an accomplished amateur wrestler.

After being diagnosed with cancer he became an inspiration to many by successfully battling the disease for a number of years.

HELSINKI – Finnish officials say that former lawmaker and boxer Tony Halme has been found dead in his apartment. He was 47.

Police say no crime is suspected, but they gave no further details Sunday.

Halme — known as "The Viking" for his 6-foot-6 (195-centimeter) stance — was a heavyweight boxer, pro wrestler and bodyguard in the U.S. before joining politics in Finland.

He served in Finnish parliament in 2003-2007 for the small, radical True Finns Party.

In 2004, a court gave him a suspended sentence for firearms and drugs violations after he fired a gun at home while his wife was there.[/img]

If I was a morbidly obese 400 pound naked man with a voluptuous bosom and an airport runway for a haircut, i'd end it all too.

First of all, your facts are all wrong. My brown box was smashed into pieces by a man by the name of Igor Danylenko. Second, Pekka Nurmi went to the moon with Stratowarii 2.0.

:) Stratowarii? Is that some sort of rocket? I know the person Stratowarius 2 and he hasn't even thought of going to the moon. Strange idea and totally wrong. That Pecca has lied you full again.

And what is Pecca? Some brand of peanut butter sandwich spread?  Or some kind of trail mix?

Pekka Nurmi, who is twice the gentleman you will ever be, has never uttered an untruth in his entire life. And that is saying something, considering he turns 311 just next week (and again the week after).

Did you know he used to be a professional wrestler? He won every match. His secret? Hummus muffins!

   I give up. I have no ambitions to be some gentleman or even a gentlewoman and I tell lies every other minute, so I must be rather hopeless in your Nurmiloving eyes. Ok He is perfect and those Hummusmuffins must be very special, but I don't like muffins and I definitely don't like that Nurmi. To think of it I don't like wrestlers either.

While you are gathered here my children, there is something you must know. I am a lie, a sham, an imposter. The real Priapus is a Finnish bassfarmer, known in some fishing circles as "Lauri Porra".

That is all.

Just a reminder of what these guys do to themselves. Sure, it's all staged, but some really impressive stuff going down there.

Just a little reminder of what can happen if Wrestling goes wrong:

Sid Vicious botches a jump and breaks his leg live on PPV

Japanese Wrestling Legend Mitsuharu Misawa also died in the Ring after a botched Back Suplex:

Here we go again...
Chris Kanyon passes away
Image

Chris Klucsaritis, who wrestled as Chris Kanyon, passed away last night from an overdose of pills at his apartment in the Sunnyside section of Queens, NY, last night. He was 40.

Klucsaritis' death is believed to be a suicide. He had been open about suffering from a bipolar disorder and had talked and threatened suicide many times in the past according to those who are close with him.

He had been talking about going through another bout with depression and taking his life earlier in the week. Because he had talked about it so often, it was

Klucsaritis was trained locally in New York by Bobby Bold Eagle, and later in Columbua, SC by Lillian "Fabulous Moolah" Ellison at her home gym in Columbia, SC, and developed into an innovative and underrated wrestler. He debuted in 1992, and wrestled the bulk of his career for WCW.

He started with Mark Starr as part of a tag team "Men at Work," and later developed the Mortis gimmick. His highest profile role, including holding the WCW tag team titles, came with Diamond Dallas Page and Bam Bam Bigelow as the Jersey Triad.

During that period, he also worked in Hollywood on movie sets during a boom period for pro wrestling when the movie industry was interested in films, including on "Ready to Rumble" and a made-for-TV movie on Jesse Ventura.

He was a victim of the demise of WCW, as WWE wasn't really a good fit for him stylistically. Even though he was 6-3, he did not possess the kind of look they wanted. He was also plagued by injuries during that period and was finally released in 2004.

He attempted to get back into the major leagues doing a gimmick as the first openly gay pro wrestler, later admitting to be gay in real life. He tried to garner publicity claiming WWE fired him for being gay, but the publicity went nowhere. TNA was also not interested in the gimmick. He had wrestled sparingly in recent years, had announced a retirement, but still on occasion wrestled.

He was part of a lawsuit with Scott Levy and Mike Sanders against WWE for misclassifying wrestlers as independent contracts, but the suit was thrown out of court because the statute of limitations had expired on filing such a suit.
He started out as WCW jobber until they renamed him into Mortis, gave him a silly costume and threw him in a Horror-Type of Tag Team with Warath (aka Bryan Adams aka Adam Bomb) with Sinister Minister as their manager in 1997. The Team split up quietly. After that he dropped the Mortis gimmick, started a feud against Raven together with Perry Saturn, then turned on Saturn and became a member of Raven's Flock in 1998. After this stable split up in fall of 1009 he and Raven formed a Tag Team until Kanyond decided to take some time off to wark as a stundman. In 1999 ge returned formed the stable "The New Jerrsy Triad" together with Bam Bam Bigelow and Diamond Dallas Page. When this stable finally broke up in summer of 1999 he disapeared yet again only to return with a Hollywood snob Gimmick as Chris "Champagne" Kanyon (C.C.K.). He feuded briefly with his former partners Bigelow and Page before the Gimmick was dropped and he disappeared again. On April 2000 Kanyon returned once more trying to save his former partner DDP from being Powerbomb of a cage by Mike Awesome only to get thrown down the cage himself. After that he turned on DDP, naming himself "Positively" Kanyon and basicly trying to imitate DDP. After getting in a short feud with Buff Bagwell for attacking his mother he left again after being defeated by Bagwell in a Judy Bagwell on a Forklift match (pelase don't ask. When WCW was booked by Vince Russi from 2002 onwards it was a huge mess). In early 2001 he returned again for another short feud with DDP and Ernest Miller, but that never went anyhwere since WCW was sold to WWF (now known as WWE) in march of 2001. Along with a bunch of other WCW Wrestlers he was heird by WWF for their "WCW Invades WWF" storyline. But he became a glorified jobber and after only being used in dark matches and in WWEs developement camp he left in 2004. After that he wrestled the Indys and even made a small appereance in TNA as Chris K. only to be defeated by his former ally Raven. He then came out of the closet and announcing that he was gay and claiming to be the first openly gay Pro Wrestler, going so far as claiming WWE released him because he was gay. Later he said that it was a failed publicity stunt only to change his mind again a few weeks later to say that he really is gay. He retired after that, only wrestling on rare occasions.

It is sad to see him die. He was one of the better Wrestlers and his Gimmick as DDP clone was very enjoyable. Let's say his catchphrase one last time: "WHO BETTA THAN KANYON?"

R.I.P. Chris Kanyon
