I want to know what the other forumers think about this lady.
I absolutely love her and het magical voice. And yes, I'm into men but I can only say that she is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.
I knew very lil' about her, but when she came to Argentina to sing with the leading vocalist of Rata Blanca on a concert last year, she was mind-blowing: What an excellent and beautfiul voice she has
Tarja from Nightwish...I'm not too much of a fan of the operatic singers. I'm not a big fan of female singers in Metal in general (apart from a few exeptions like Doro Pesch or Simone Simmons) but I can't say anything bad about her.

from century child and on there were less operatic singing. I prefered it that way.

No inspiration today? Come on, you can do it!! Believe in yourself!
Why? I don't have anything to say. I don't really like her but I also don't dislike her. I like some of the Nightwish stuff she did. I never listened to any of her solo stuff but I think she looks smoking hot.

I really love how she sings in Oceanborn and Wishmaster. Personally, I liked that style a lot better than the less operatic style she used after those albums. An example: the original version of Sleeping Sun sounds much better than the re-recorded version from 2005.
If irony were made of strawberries, we'd all be drinking a lot of smoothies right now.

Century Child is about the only Nightwish album I can listen to from start to finish. Most of their stuff bores me, but she does have an awesome voice. Although for female singers, I like more of a "rocker" voice, like Kimberly Goss from Sinergy.
Tarja was alot better before Century Child, more power in her voice. At century child she started to develop a horrible vibrato which now is worse then ever. Tarja should have kept going with the powerful voice, now she's pretty much worthless. She doesn't hit a straight note, she sways/doesnt hit the tone right away and that makes me pretty sad. I love Nightwishs songs, both the ones with tarja and the ones with anette. Luckily Anette performs Tarjas songs better then Tarja did during the last 2 world tours with Tarja singing.

Set your phasers to "stun", Captain.
I think that Turunen is certainly talented and has a beautiful voice. However, I can also relate to the earlier observation about using too much vibrato in her voice on the later material, and agree that too much of it can be annoying. Vibrato can certainly be useful for emotional and dramatic effect, but should be used judiciously.
If Holopainen was the producer, as well as the composer, then he should have worked with her more on the vocal parts.

What you say is true. Especially live she uses too much vibrato. It sounds forced sometimes. But still I think she has one of the most beautiful classical voices.

While I do like her older voice more than her voice on the later albums, I really think the 2005 version of Sleeping Sun is 10000000 times better that the original 1998 version.
This is the best song on the album and one of the best I've heard in a long time. No Anneke this time though.

This whole album is a masterpiece.

I've read somewhere that this extreme album is supposed to be the heaviest thing he ever done, which makes me wonder what exactly is there and how can it top the first 2 SYL albums in terms of chaos and brutality.
Nice to see another Devin Townsend fan in here
