Drunk drivers

Post by Babylon » Tue Mar 23, 2010 4:11 am

Thanks to the drunk driver who hit us from behind on Saturday night, I have a badly sprained neck. Now, on the link below, you can see what our car looked like after the accident:

I say the three of us (my brother, his girlfriend and me) were damn lucky to walk out of there with just some neck injuries and bruises. I was traveling in the back seat, on the right side. There were 5 cars involved in the whole thing. I looked at the car when we got out, I've seen this picture many times and I am still amazed nothing worse happened to us. We could have been killed. And all because of some drunk asshole, who btw did not spend the night in jail as he should have. He bribed the cops, so they let him go home. Oh yea, gotta love corruption in Mexico.

At this point, I am scared to even go out on a weekend night anymore. And it doesn't matter what time it is, this guy was drunk out of his mind at 10 pm.... Every week it is the same thing, we see all these accidents that happen because of drinking and driving, and unfortunately not everybody is as lucky as we were. And as long as we have these kind of authorities, it is never going to end.

It's very fortunate that no one was killed. Thank God and your guardian angels for that.

If someone had done that around here (in the States) there would be a shopping list of charges;

- DUI
- Reckless Endangerment
- Failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle
- etc.

Good luck with your recovery!

Yes, if this had happened in the states the driver would be facing a variety of charges, maybe even having his insurance revoked, and license pulled. In the states people who have any common sense at all do not drive drunk because the risks, and penalties are not worth taking a chance.
But, given the circumstances, and where you do live, Babylon the only thing I can say is take care of your injuries and try not to let these injustices get you down.

Is there any chance this schmuck can be "punished" in any way? This is not fair at all! :x

Corruption generally circumvents what is 'fair'.

Shit, dudette. Sorry for that.
You should tear the driver a new asshole. Sometimes the law of the land isn't enough.

sometimes a new asshole is not enough either.

best wishes on recovery, shame that there is corruption and that the driver is free to endanger more people

Drunk Drivers should have their legs cut off so they can never ever drive again.

Thanks guys :) Still hurting all over, but getting better. It has also been a pain getting all the paperwork done with Social Security so we can get our pay for the time we will miss from work.

I lived in the US for a few years and I noticed what BEG mentioned about people not driving drunk because of the risks and penalties (of course, there are still some who ignore it). The law here is not so bad.. I mean if you drive drunk you're supposed to go to jail and pay a fine. If a person is killed by a drunk driver it is now considered first degree murder, and not manslaughter like it was before. But corruption is still above the law. It is the sad reality of most of our latin american countries.

Damn, that sucks! Sorry, but glad you're ok! Don't let this scare you from living your life though! The bribery and corruption in Mexico doesn't seem to be new, and judging from all the stories I hear from everyone else, I never want to go there unless it's a super touristy resort.

Just stay away from the border cities and you'll be fine!
