Recommend me: Dream Evil

Post by mayhem-for-all » Sun Apr 25, 2010 11:53 am

After Testament (No success) In Flames (Success) and Freedom Call (Huge success!) I am asking you opinnions on a band called Dream Evil.

I am already buying some of their stuff since I was really impressed after listening to their myspace songs over a few months back.

Yet I would like to hear some opinnions.

I am buying the Gold Medal in Metal for 8.90€ which seemed like quite good deal considering the amount of stuff included.
I am also going to buy one of their albums on the side.
Any suggestions?

Dream Evil. Sweden's second HammerFall. One of the first bands for Firewind's and now Ozzy Osbourne's Gus G. to shine. And while their albums with Gus G. were good, their stuff without him isn't bad either. And their singer blow HammerFall's Cans, at least in my opinion, out of the water. They don't re-invent the wheel with their music, but they don't have too. It is solid and Fun Power/Heavy Metal.

I'd recommend you to get either their first album "DragonSlayer" or their latest "In The Night".

And Gold Made In Metal really is a nice package including bonus tracks, b-sides, unreleased stuff and a Live Show. And don't think that it is a collection of low-quality stuff. Most of the songs kick as and It still bothers me how those songs never made it on the Track Lists of their earlier albums.

They're good. Not life-changing or genre-defining, but they have good records for putting on in dirty metal pubs after about 2 AM when everyone is either in the state of just propping up the bar or trying to chat up one of the four females in the entire place, while the more wasted are staggering around headbanging to whatever is playing. That's what Dream Evil make me think of.

The book of heavy metal is without any doubt the best Dream evil album!

I love this band! Especially the first album, Dragonslayer. Like it's been mentioned, maybe they haven't reivented anything but they have some pretty awesome riffs. I listen to them and Nocturnal Rites quite often on my way to work in the morning, to gather some energy :D I would also recommend the album United, in particular the songs Blind Evil, Let Me Out and Kingdom At War.

That's the only album I got. I think it's kinda weak. Crusader's Anthem is a masterpiece, though. Are their other songs anything like Crusader's Anthem?

Caught them live on Thursday, they were opening for Hammerfall. Had a quick chat with Fredrik and a screaming competition with Daniel. Very cool guys!

Now about the album.
So I bought The Book of Heavy Metal and it is just amazing.
Very 80s.
Chosen Twice is just so amazing and one of the best songs in this universe.
The whole album is really good.
I am looking forward to buying more of their albums.

After having listened to all their albums (I think), I'd rank them like this:

1) United (including the bonus CD) / Dragonslayer
2) Evilized
3) In The Night
4) The Book Of Heavy Metal

TBOHM is too rock-oriented to my tastes.

1) United (including the bonus CD)

Yeah so the 2cd edition is worth getting, right?

Dream Evil is an amazing band. Great songs, great musicians and their amazing lyrics ;D

I dont think i can rank the albums, love em all. fucking kickass all of em. Dream Evil was the first real heavy metalband I saw live and i've listened to em ever since.

the best part is their lyrics, they just make fools out of bands like manowar. you can interpret them seriously if you want to but with songtitles like "chosen ones", "chosen twice" and "the unchosen one" you kindof figure out that they do it for the lolz =)

like, who the hell makes a song about a red, white and black bird that stays in sweden during the winter (doomlord, a direct translation of domherre in swedish). That's what I love about them :D

I'd suggest you get Dragonslayer next. If you liked TBOHM, you are going to love this one. Actually, it is one of my favorite albums ever and definitely my favorite Dream Evil one :D

They play on the same day as Stratovarius which means I will get to see them for the first time. Looking forward to this!
