Ronnie James Dio looses the batle to cancer...
Post
by Ragehead91 » Sun May 16, 2010 9:16 pm
Wendy Dio, wife/manager of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW), has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:
"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45 a.m. [on Sunday] 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.
"Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all.
"We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us.
"Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss.
"Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."
Wow. I'm speechless and I'm actually crying right now. It is not fair. Ozzy Osbourne was basicly stoned since the beginning of his carrere and is still alive and such a gentleman like Dio who never took drugs dies. It's not fair. It's not fucking fair.

I just read it and I'm shocked.
![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
Don't know what to think of it. I read the rumours a few days ago. But then Wendy said that he was not doing good, but he was alive...
This is a BIG loss for the hard rock/heavy metal world. And for the music world in general. This humble gentleman shouldn't have passed away...

make this about ronnie, not who you think should die first. life does not play by fareness but we can make something out of the unfairness by not cheapening it with saying who should die, but who should have had more time.
thanks for the love and music, ronnie, this will live on with his music and actions and inspiration

Please don't start an argument here. I'm not saying that Ozzy should die. I'm just saying that it is not fair that some people who are stoned during their entire carrere still live while others, who never took any drugs, die. Ozzy was just an example. The first name that came to my mind.

A true giant of metal is gone. I still can't believe this
![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
But I'm very glad that I got to see Dio live in 2005. Such an awesome gig.

I've seen him around that time too, here in Israel. He played the entire Holy Diver album, among tons of other stuff. I even took a picture with him after the show.
RIP, true heavy metal legend.

I've just heard from a friend of mine about this, and honestly I couldn't believe; so I came here to see if this was true. Man, this is the most tragic lost in the Heavy Metal world; this won't be the same without Dio

This is terrible news...
Rest in peace Ronnie James Dio. Not only a giant vocalist and musician but also a great, down to earth person, no rock star behaviour, always close to the fans, no ego and no arrogance.
A huge blow and a sad day for rock music worldwide:-(
Black Metal is the game I play cos' no one shows me the right way...

I'm very saddened by this lose, I can't stop myself from crying while writing this, Dio was a HUGE influence on me and my singing, I was always hoping that one day I'd get to meet the man now it seems I won't get the chance.

He wrote so many of my favourite songs. I'm glad I was able to see him live at least once.

I'm upset that Dio has passed, certainly, but it's a far cry that it's "Unfair that Ozzy outlived Dio"
I think the original members of Black Sabbath are probably the most underappreciated group of musicians in metal history, nobody seems to appreciate that Tony Iommi had the guitar chops to make anyone look like a damned fool if he wanted to, or how much of a presence Geezer Butler created. I've yet to see Bill Ward really recognized for his talent outside of the token "Because he was in Sabbath" excuse and none of it would have been possible without Ozzy. They were the fathers of metal, and they earned that title by being incredibly good at what they did, and doing it incredibly well.

R.I.P. Dio. I was lucky, I saw him in Metalmania Festival in 2003 with Maiden and Saxon. One of the greatest is away. So it´s life, but I feel there´s a no valid replacement.

The issue of fairness has so many sides, we can always find those less fortunate and there are so many groups born into misfortune. Lets look at the opportunity that dio has had to share his gifts with the world that so many people die without the opportunity. celebrating his life and what he was able to give the world is what I am going to focus on and trying to work to bring opportunity so that others can even have some bit of a chance to do what dio was able to. there is so much out there that is untapped, I feel its important to use what dio was able to bring to the table to help tap some of that talent development that is out there but does not have the chance to develop. We will see what the death sparks but there are plenty of cases where a person dying did more than if they had lived. It’s also about how we look at death. I feel dio dies at peace and his soul is will live on to new experiences and continue on its journey.

RIP. One of the fathers of Metal.
It is often said that the good die young, and, indeed Dio was much too young to pass on, I guess he and all the other Rock and Metal greats are making their own music in Heaven right now.
As for us, Dio's legacy will live on in his music and we will always be able to honor and remember him. So, in a sense, Dio will never die where it counts---in our hearts. ♥

I missed the opportunity to see him with Rage in 2005 (just coincidence, the promoter arranged both shows the same day at the same city-Granada, Spain), and at the very last minute, he could have both shows in the same venue. A friend of mine attended the gig with his old vynil lps, and Dio signed all of them on stage! Incredible. Not all the rock stars do something similar. I saw the pics and I couldn´t believe it.
