On Saturday, June 5, former HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske returned to the live stage for the first time in 17 years with his new band UNISONIC — also featuring Dennis Ward (bass) and Kosta Zafiriou (drums) of Germany's PINK CREAM 69 and Swiss guitarist Mandy Meyer (who has previously played with ASIA, GOTTHARD and KROKUS) — for a headlining performance at Live Music Hall in Mörlenbach, Germany.
The group's setlist was as follows:
01. Cross The Line (PLACE VENDÔME's self-titled debut)
02. I'll Be Gone (extended ending) (PLACE VENDÔME's self-titled debut)
03. I'll Be Waiting (PLACE VENDÔME's self-titled debut)
04. Set Me Free (PLACE VENDÔME's "Streets Of Fire")
05. My Guardian Angel (PLACE VENDÔME's "Streets Of Fire")

08. Completely Breathless (PLACE VENDÔME's "Streets Of Fire")
09. Sign Of The Times (PLACE VENDÔME's self-titled debut)
10. Streets of Fire (PLACE VENDÔME's "Streets Of Fire")
11. The Setting Sun (PLACE VENDÔME's self-titled debut)

You can only think what Michi must feel when the front row is full of devil horn signs / protection from the devil signs / whatever signs. \,,/ I'm looking forward someone actually getting an okay camera to a Kiske show...
The new song doesn't even sound that bad... More rocking than Place Vendome.

I think Kiske does have to live with that. If you've ever been involved into a metal band, even if it was 17 years ago, you'll get peoples who sho you the horns. I doubt he cares.
And yes, the new song sounds good.
We will probably get good footage when Unisonic play Sweden Rock Festival in a few days.

His voice is in very good shape. You can tell he has not been onstage for a long time, seen a clip from Cross The Line, he's not playing guitar there and doesn't really move around. He also looks a little chubby, hanging out with Timo Tolkki too much maybe?
Seriously, tho, it's great to see him doing live shows again, and I agree, the new song sounds pretty good.

I'm very interested in the new CD. The Song that they've played sounds good and I wasn't expecting a song that heavy from a band that involves Michael Kiske as their lead singer.

Both of the Place Vendome are rather good. Nice, catchy AOR. Although I like the 2nd one more.

Place Vendome is so boring.
Every time I listen to it, I wake up in a pool of my own saliva.
It just sounds way too "safe" and there are no good melodies. :crazy1:
Kiske's solo albums are all fantastic, though. Especially his self-titled one. :bounce2:
I wish he would write more songs instead of singing on lame "Frontiers cash-in" projects.
To each, his own!

Songs like Cross the Line and Streets of Fire were actually very good.
But most of the songs of the album are slow-paced and ballads.
So I give PV 6/10.

I would call a song without a "good melody"(too subjective) a bomb, not a safe song. It is safe to write melodies that a bands target market finds good. To me it makes more sense to say the band played it risky by not having good melodies. I don't think that is the case and plenty of others liked some of the material as well.

What do you expect? Full-On double bass speed metal songs and 15-minutes-epics like Keeper Of The Seven Keys? We're still talking about Michael Kiske.NeverendingAbyss wrote:Songs like Cross the Line and Streets of Fire were actually very good.

I never said it sounds safe BECAUSE there are no good melodies.

I think both albums are full of good melodies.
Re: Kiske first live show after 17 years...
It can't be separate. Safe=good melodies in AOR. For a song to be safe in AOR, it has to have a good melody because that is what the target audience is looking for. Other from that, what do you mean by "safe" then? To me "safe" means that the songs are designed to target an audience and have features that the writers know will be well received by that audience.
Re: Kiske first live show after 17 years...
I agree. Although I also like Streets of Fire more than the first album. On the other hand I also enjoy Kiske's solo albums.Ragehead91 wrote:I think both albums are full of good melodies.

I guess this is a fine topic to bump, now that the Kiske/Somerville album got leaked.

I didn't bother to download it, but it's on a pretty trustable site, so it did. : D
