Celesty
Re: Celesty
i really like celesty, reign of elements is my favorite of theirs and the three legacy of hate songs are all ones i enjoy in that 10 minutes or longer song catagory.
Re: Celesty
I actually didn't know about this band until Tony Turunen joined it, i really dig his voice. Might check the earlier albums at some point.

Re: Celesty
I have been listening to their stuff for few years now.
I guess I became aware of their existence by the time Vendettas release was just about to be revealed.
I have and like the two latest albums of their which are very different and both very great.
Vendetta is one of the best Symphonic Metal albums and the Legacy of Hate pt.3 is one of the best epic songs I have ever heard.

Re: Celesty
I like Celesty, but I don't think it is anything special, just simple power metal with symphonic elements.
It still isn't symphonic metal. >.>mayhem-for-all wrote: Vendetta is one of the best Symphonic Metal albums and the Legacy of Hate pt.3 is one of the best epic songs I have ever heard.
Re: Celesty
This subgenre thing is bullshit. Just sayin'.

Sure, then it's power metal.Kosmo wrote:This subgenre thing is bullshit. Just sayin'.
Re: Celesty
how is it not symphonic to write out string, choir, and horn sections in the music. symphonic metal just means it has a single element or more of a symphony either recorded or emulated.

I hate answering to your annoying bullshit but whatever.icecab21 wrote:how is it not symphonic to write out string, choir, and horn sections in the music. symphonic metal just means it has a single element or more of a symphony either recorded or emulated.
It has far more power metal than symphonic elements in it, so it's in no way 'symphonic metal' (genre), but is (power) metal with symphonic elements.
Re: Celesty
there is no "more" , once it has the elements its symphonic.
symphonic power metal is still how it would be refered it if you need to be that anal
lets look at a definition commonly used

Symphonic metal is a term used to describe heavy metal music that has symphonic elements;
Re: Celesty
Commonly doesn't mean correctly. This is far closer to power metal than to symphonic metal (for ex.: Therion, Haggard, Epica etc.).icecab21 wrote:there is no "more" , once it has the elements its symphonic.

Re: Celesty
In the right corner we have seasoned Stratoforum veteran icecar21!!! And in the left corner, newcomer Balu!!!. The theme for today's match is: whether or not Finnish band Celesty is power metal or symphonic metal. Dictionaries will be consulted...personal attacks will be made....accusations of sexual deviancy GUARANTEED!! Newcomer vs bescumber(er?). Who will reign supreme? All bets are off. The only thing we know for certain is that the brain damage these deranged buffoons are already suffering from will be exacerbated even further. 1.......2........3......FIGHT!!

Let us all take a good look at what SYMPHONIC really IS:
SYMPHONIC: Adjective
* S: (adj) symphonic (relating to or characteristic or suggestive of a symphony) "symphonic choir"
* S: (adj) symphonic, symphonious (harmonious in sound) "the symphonic hum of a million insects"
LIKE A MILLION INSECTS!! Do you hear a MILLION insects when you hear Celesty?1? I can barely hear a fucking thousand

Letting this study go a little further, we can all look at what the scholars believe when they talk symphonically about Beethoven's 72nd symphony on Mark Levine's books and stuff:
SYMPHONY: In Western classical music, a symphony is an extended musical composition, scored almost always for orchestra. "Symphony" does not necessarily imply a specific form, though most are composed according to the sonata principle. Many symphonies are tonal works in four movements with the first in sonata form, which is often described by music theorists as the structure of a "classical" symphony, although many symphonies by the acknowledged classical masters of the form, Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven do not conform to this model.
BY THE WAY Have you noticed that SYMPHONY only has one vowel??

But anyways to complete this mishmash of information and hilarious facts, we must complete the definition of symphony by saying mozart infact composed the music, which is not the case with celesty.
WE CAN ALL CONCLUDE THAT:
THIS is a symphony:

THIS, on the other hand, isN'T :
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tPvxQ5cSeZQ?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tPvxQ5cSeZQ?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Re: Celesty
Balu I think it is safe to say it is symphonic metal.
They had my citys very own Philharmoic Symphony Orchestra playing on the record and quite a lot of it too
(And if that is not enough I think there ain't too many symphonic metal bands out there at all
