Recomend me some... Iced Earth.

Post by Arkash » Thu Dec 23, 2010 8:19 pm

Hey guys, I'm really interested in this band but dont know how to start it?

I've listened to "Something wicked" yesterday and I'm now into "Dark Saga", any particular album to listen first, or any song?
Through the storms we've wandered
Many mountains we have climbed
But all the bad times are behind
The road is free - I'm coming home

I just checked it on Dark Saga, I think it's the best song of the album with "I died for you"!!!
Through the storms we've wandered
Many mountains we have climbed
But all the bad times are behind
The road is free - I'm coming home

I agree with you on that one. Burnt Offerings is wonderful!!!!

Yet, my favourite songs are still so far "Watching over me", "I died for you", "A question of heaven", "Melancholy", but I havent listened to everything yet!!!!!
"I walk alone", "The Hunter", "Vengeance is mine", "The Last Laugh", "Stand alone" are great too!
But "The dark saga" and "Something wicked" are the two albums I listened most, I'm gonna do the rest of'em tommorow!!!!

You have to get Something Wicked This Way Comes.

That is the defining Iced Earth album in every way - it's amazing.

Unfortunately I think everything else they've done is a far cry from that album, and their last three have been utter shit. Here are some songs I do highly recommend though:

Dante's Inferno (16 minute amazing epic)
Angels' Holocaust
A Question of Heaven (absolutely beautiful)
Ten Thousand Strong
Declaration Day
Damien
Dracula

WHAT! your crazy framing Armageddon and glorious burden are great albums ( crucible of man sucked), and a question of heaven is like one of their worst songs ever!!

Too many slow songs in the something wicked album(although its still a good album)
If you want a GREAT iced earth album go get burnt offerings and horror show!!

I second Burnt Offerings and Horror Show, those would be the ones I would suggest getting next.

A Question of Heaven is a beautiful ballad... the ending is so powerful, and the Alive in Athens version is even better, one of the few times I prefer a live recording to the studio version.

And with the exception of Ten Thousand Strong, I think both Something Wicked albums are full of mediocre filler and absolutely embarrassing predictable riffs from Schaffer.

Arkash:Let me recommend some full albums to you as I am a huge Iced earth fan.

The Blessed and the Damned:this is a best of compilation, it's filled with a ton of great songs

Stormrider:in my opinion an underrated classic, the singer on this one is not the best however the songs are just epic.

Burnt offerings:as most others have said this album is just brilliant.

Dark Saga:the song "a question of heaven" alone is worth getting this album.

Something wicked this way comes and both Framing Armageddon and Crucible of man: the story line is just epic on all three of these albums, reminds me in a way of the storyline iron maiden had with seventh son of a seventh son.

I say try these out first and if you like them just go out and get their whole discography, Iced earth is one of those bands that if you like several albums your bound to like them all as they pretty much very rarely deviate from their core sound.

From what I heard I truly like'em. Not a huge fan, but I really liked what I heard!!!

I shall listen to "The Blessed and the Damned" (following your advice) and "Alive in Athens" any soon!!!

Night of the Stormrider is one of my favourite albums ever. SO epic, just incredible.

Horror Show is probably my second favourite. Cleaner, sharper, and as for epic... I mean, dude...

If you listen to BURNT OFFERINGS on repeat, it will make you into a depressed man. You'll eat ice cream sandwiches in the dark. By yourself. Alone. Then you will make love to your imaginary girlfriend.

Ice cream sandwiches bring people together. I'd like to heal the world with ice cream sandwiches. I'd like to end world hunger with ice cream sandwiches.
