It has been a long while since I last had a recommend me thread.
This time around I want some introductions and recommendations with Yngwies music. I have listened to his songs from time to time but I haven't bought any of his cds and now I just realized that I have been delaying that for too long.
So... It's your turn now.

Re: Recommend me: Yngwie Malmsteen
I only have Relentless and Angels of Love.
Relentless is his classic style. Angels of Love is more acoustic based. Both are super!
Songs like Black Star and Far Beyond the Sun are what made him recognizable.

Re: Recommend me: Yngwie Malmsteen
My favourite albums are Alchemy, Trilogy and Rising Force. Oddyssey is pretty good too, generally more commercial-sounding album but some real quality tracks on there.

Re: Recommend me: Yngwie Malmsteen
I suggest you step on your garden and hear the birds sing beautifully. And then you grab the very same bird to fuck it in the middle of the garden while it sings beautiful melodies of peace and love between your hands.

Re: Recommend me: Yngwie Malmsteen
that is the shit right there, everything else Malmsteem had done over the years is merely a re-visit of this classic albumnsNeonVomit wrote:My favourite albums are Alchemy, Trilogy and Rising Force. I have enjoyed Relentless A LOT. I like a lot Malmsteen's works. Just listen to everything.

Listening the whole Yngwie discography is only good for extreme fans of arpeggios shredding.RazielSR wrote:I have enjoyed Relentless A LOT. I like a lot Malmsteen's works. Just listen to everything.

Why listen to Malmsteen? SOO many better musicians out there. Only stuff I like from him are the first three albums.

Malmsteen is great and is an absolutely and fantastic composer and guitarist. Guitar god.

Re: Recommend me: Yngwie Malmsteen
is a matter of taste, but I agree his first 3 records are amazing., I think everything YJM did in the 80s is awesome, from the 90s onwards he kind of repeated the formula too much.Balu wrote:Why listen to Malmsteen? yeah totally !! he should play a little slower more often, his melodies are amazing, sometimes the feelin get lost within the bunch of notes he plays.icecab21 wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJy0YAMwBKA

Malmsteen Rules...
I think I own four or five Malmsteen records. Let me see... in no particular order...
The Collection *****
Alchemy ****
Electric Suite in E minor ****
Relentless ****
Facing the Animal (on tape) ****
Ones I should still get are: Rising Force (the classic), Live in Leningrad, Odyssey, Eclipse, Magnum Opus et cetera. You can't really go wrong with Malmsteen. It's all great stuff.
I love Yngwie's song writing too. In my book, he's the only one who is able to convincingly mix blues, flamenco and baroque music. It's all there in this big ballad. Pompous? Yeah, but it's great when played loud!

Re: Recommend me: Yngwie Malmsteen
It sure is.. but to me, his composing abilities are mediocre (especially since the 90s). Well, at least compared to my favorites (even within metal). :>adrian9 wrote:is a matter of taste, but I agree his first 3 records are amazing., I think everything YJM did in the 80s is awesome, from the 90s onwards he kind of repeated the formula too much.Balu wrote:Why listen to Malmsteen? Re: Recommend me: Yngwie Malmsteen
mediocre is not a word that fits YJM,... he opened the gates for shred, he started the whole shred thing from the 80s (with the first Steeler and alcatrazz album) everything you hear now was probably done by yngwie in the 80s. (in the power metal scene I mean)
things to google.
Shred. Mike Varney. Sharpnel Records.

His TECHNICAL abilities are amazing, the composing, not so much. I mean, he has some nice tunes, but is he really comparable to, let's say.. Devin Townsend, Christofer Johnsson or Asis Nasseri (to name some of my favorites)?adrian9 wrote:mediocre is not a word that fits YJM,... he opened the gates for shred, he started the whole shred thing from the 80s (with the first Steeler and alcatrazz album) everything you hear now was probably done by yngwie in the 80s. Sorry, I hate that egomaniac with every bone in my body. I find it hard to believe people like the sound of neck pickup noodles and wanky wank fests.

At least he didn't announce a contest where fans should make a stone sculpture of himself and put it up in the city center.robocop656 wrote:Sorry, I hate that egomaniac with every bone in my body. I find it hard to believe people like the sound of neck pickup noodles and wanky wank fests.
Re: Recommend me: Yngwie Malmsteen
ritchie blackmore was neo classical inspired, but there is also a little blues and rock and roll sound, awesome guitar player, and surely ynwgie has ripped him off quite a bit, but to me, that is not shred as we know it today.,
then also you´ll have to credit Uli roth (scorpions)
you can probably say that Eddie van halen was the first shreeder in 1977.
please dont cry because i dont think blackmore started the whole thing.
and to balu, yeah we are talking about technical abilities, YJM lyrics are corny, sometimes stupids and crap.

Actually, I don't think technical and composing abilities are the same.. :>adrian9 wrote: and to balu, yeah we are talking about technical abilities, YJM lyrics are corny, sometimes stupids and crap.

Edit because post below.
Re: Recommend me: Yngwie Malmsteen
*sigh*, your understanding of music fails to extend past the most famous 2-3 artists in the genre, and doesn't take into account the actual innovators of music. As far as other early "Shredders"adrian9 wrote:ritchie blackmore was neo classical inspired, but there is also a little blues and rock and roll sound, awesome guitar player, and surely ynwgie has ripped him off quite a bit, but to me, that is not shred as we know it today.,

Django is the most important, being soley responsible for inspiring Tony Iommi to get back into guitar, as well as being a huge influence on Blackmore (The two forefathers of metal).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54H3EUAzpVg
That's actually off Budgie's third album, in 1973, but they'd been around since 1967. They were Rush before Rush knew what being Rush meant.

More Ritchie, because, let's be honest year, no matter what YJM says in interviews about Hendrix, his entire career has been trying to rip off Ritchie Blackmore, from the clothes, to the hairstyle, to the guitar playing, to the actual guitar that he plays, and its color. It's kinda funny, kinda pathetic too...

Django is playing an acoustic guitar (did you notice that?) , the word SHRED and the SHRED SCENE im talking about (i say "I" beacuse im pretty sure you are not reading my entire post) is limited to rock or metal only.fucks sake.

obviously diminished arpeggios werent invented in 1974

then, Budgie is a proto heavy metal stuff, and they are often tagged even as the first heavy metal band ever, and for that time, nice guitar playing, but there is nothing to do with shred here.

now, that candance is hot...Deuce.
