Cain's Offering/Jani Liimitainen

What ever happened to Jani and this project? Has it just been a consequence of TK being too busy to do anything with them, or has Jani given up? He's always been one of my favorite power metal guitarists, and I've like to hear more from him, has anyone heard anything?

I was at acoustic gig by Liimatainen/Kotipelto in May and asked Jani if he was planning to do more music for Cain's Offering.
At this point he has no such plans. The album was something he felt that had to be done and now it's done.

Timo and Jani are playing some acoustic gigs this month, in Finland. Too bad they aren't planning to do another Cain's Offering CD...I really liked that album and it grew only better with time!

Probably, Cain's Offering did not sell well enough to justify the time and effort of making another album. That's my guess.

x2
also there is a chance that jani is burned out or had fallen out of the whole metal scene, since he keeps a very low profile and have shown little interest in creating buzz.

Cain's Offering is SO dead, that the project doesn't even appear on Mikko's Bio on the Symfonia site.

Last news were from 2009

Their site is dead

Jani's last post on MySpace is from 2009

Kotipelto can't go full time with that band because he has another band. Not so known, but he has to work for them. I don't know if you guys know it, it's called Strato-something...

In a nutshell, the band, as it was... it's dead.

So... two things. This small acoustig gigs are too small and as cool as they are, they are not enough to say the band is alive.

Second, if Mr. Liimatainen expects people to take him seriously, he should put a better effort to have fans informed about his musical plans. Cain's Offering could work again, even with another Line Up... I don't know, Kiske has no band right now. But as for today, I think the band is dead. Their album disapointed me anyway... and I don't care anymore about Jani.

Koti's voice was great on the album though. It was allways interesting to me one thing Koti once said. That amongst all guitar players he has worked with, Matias was the best. Just interesting to me I guess...

Anyway, those acoustic mini-gigs are cool ~

Well, I didn't like CO album, just TK's voice that is amazing in that album.

But I don't like bands to dissapear. This seems another one that will go nowhere, typical nowadays. These days, when a leader or important member of a band decides to leave, it gets really difficult to be famous again.

Hope the project isn't dead, because their album is a lot better, than the wannabe prog (latest) albums of Sonata.

I also love the album, not only because of TK's wonderful vocals in there, but mainly because the songs are kinda special in style and structure. But it's Jani's project, and if he feels he has nothing more like that to give, we sadly have to accept it. Kinda like losing Pasi Rantanen to normal life, with just some rare tiny shows with his coverband... what can you do about.

If it's really dead, it doesn't hurt me that much as long as at least the other main part of the band is putting all his effort into new Stratovarius :D

Maybe if all the fans bought the album instead of download it for free they would make another album;-)

If they download it, you can still get money from the gigs and the merchandise.

Something you do have to accept, is that the band is dead. I said it, it's not even in Mikko's Bio in Symfonia's web. And not him nor Koti have time to waste it with such a informal thing. Last news in 2009... seriously?

And about the album. The power metal it has it's as avarage as it gets. Some weird mix between Avantasia and DragonForce. Nothing new. Be honest. If it was a new band with no big names on it, nobody would care about it. But it has the names "Liimatainen", "Harkin" and "Kotipelto" on it. That makes it any better? Not really, just Koti. Jani isn't doing anything amazing.

About SA, don't play innocent. Half the fans love the new stuff, half hate it. Reason? Personal taste. I won't say it's good or bad. All I'll say is, I love TDOG.

The same for Gather the Faithfull. I don't like it. Why? It's so avarage, that bores me at the middle of the second song. And from someone like Jani, I was expecting more. My Selene is better than any song on that album.

Anyway... anyone can like, or dislike whatever they want. The only truth here, is that CO is dead.

I personally like the Stuff both Sonata arctica and Stratovarius is coming out with, I also liked the Cains offering album, however I have to agree that it's just not done anything well Grand.

I'll admit the songs are catchy and it's a good album but they felt like 3 to 4 four different bands trying to be one band and in the end that doesn't make for a good formula.

I also agree that I don't think Jani is really interested anymore, I would not be surprised if he semi-retired or even full on retired at this point.

Why should his projects "go anywhere"? Who said you may only create music if you want to reach a special goal? He has the right to create music by the sake of it, and stop if he doesn't like what he's doing.

Oh I don't know... it's JANI LIIMATAINEN, one of the greatest guitar players on the history of Metal. I used to expect SOMETHING from him, but at this point, I don't expect him to do anything, and I hope fans soon realises how little he really cares about being serious with his music, which happens to be the main reason why he is not in Sonata anymore.

I like his previous work no matter if he did it "seriously" or not ???
Significantly you deleted my second sentence in the quote above, which is pretty much the answer again
I kind of guess why you're upset, but the point is that you are expecting musicians to fulfil some kind of duty and feel personally pissed if they don't. But I don't like the word duty in context with the music I listen to, because most of the time you can hear if done compulsory or not.

There's no need to get angry, but then again maybe you aren't as it's hard to interpret text.

I just say if people like his new stuff cool if not move on to something that you do like, I mean what can we do? beat them up in the street and tell them "quit making music that upsets me"?

In the end what can we do about it?

yeah I think jani doing music for the sake of doing it, after you made a living out of it is kind of.........lame., i dont know , he fading out of the music scene like that is weird, for him and for sonata fans. I hope he doesnt turn into a modern syd barret.
