Yes. The record company wanted Stratovarius to publish a new album to promote the coming tour with Tarja Turunen.
But since their new album is still so heavily in progress they desided to make Intermission Pt.2. It will contain 3 totally new songs, 4 orchestral version of older songs, some live stuff etc. No covers are expected this time.

thank you Tero! much more clear now. I hope they won't "sacrifice" stuff from the new album for this compilation though....

Hype! Glad we're getting something for current year.

I remember there was an Intermission, Pt. 2 bootleg floated around 2006 when there was no word on the next Strato album. Was really skeptical going into this thread but it looks like the real deal.

This is so cool. 2 Stratovarius albums in less than a year (hopefully). Can't wait for Intermission II!

STRATOVARIUS·FREITAG, 10. AUGUST 2018

STRATOVARIUS TO RELEASE “ENIGMA: INTERMISSION 2“
INCL. 3 BRAND NEW SONGS + 4 ORCHESTRAL TRACKS
ON SEPTEMBER 28th, 2018 ON earMUSIC.

First new song “Oblivion” available now.
Stratovarius, the top name in the melodic power metal scene, are back with a new album – with some fresh and some very rare material!
“ENIGMA: Intermission 2” features three brand new songs as well as, for the first time in the band’s history, four beautifully arranged orchestral versions of popular Stratovarius songs. The album is similar in concept to “Intermission”, released 17 years ago between “Infinite” and “Elements”, in the sense that these seven tracks made in 2018 are completed by nine very rare, very hard to find power metal gems.
With over 30 minutes of brand new material and 50 minutes of previously rare metal, “ENIGMA: Intermission 2” is definitely more killer than filler!

Take “Enigma” and “Oblivion” for example, fresh from the studio in 2018 and most definitely two killer songs. Both combine an epic melody with a bombastic chorus and heavy riffs for Stratovarius’ trademark sound and remind of “Unbreakable” from their 2013 album “Nemesis”, the most streamed song in the band’s history.
Or “Kill it with Fire” and “Castaway”, two epic and full blown power metal tracks that were previously only heard by Japanese fans.
The official song stream video for “Oblivion” is now available on earMUSIC’s official YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/WYph9C5lTqQ
“Oblivion” is also available to stream and download:
The sweeping melodic power metal grandeur of Stratovarius, together with Timo Kotipelto's powerful yet emotional voice, is very much present on all of the 80 minutes of this release. This spirit truly makes “ENIGMA: Intermission 2” closer to a full new studio album than to a mere compilation.
The album is going to be released on September 28th, 2018 as CD Digipak and Digital on earMUSIC.
Pre-orders of “Enigma: Intermission 2” are available now:

Old Man and the Sea finally on CD? Maybe I'll finally get a tab online? Am still a guitar noob, so it's hard for me to transcribe most of the song.

I am so hyped for this! I can't wait to add this to my shelves. All those tasty bonus tracks in one nice and tidy compilation. I'm excited to hear the orchestral tunes and the other two original songs.

Speaking of those, what do you all think of Oblivion? I need to hear it a couple more times. It's definitely different and more representative of 'new Strato' but it's also different even for those standards. I wonder if that's the direction they're going for on the next album, even if for just a couple songs. I would be okay with them reeling it in a bit from now on. Jens still has many years of lightning fast playing ahead of him, and Timo is not old but I just checked and he's 49! (That makes ME feel old and I'm 27) I don't want to see him go the way of James LaBrie, for example.

In fact, "Old Man And The Sea" for the first time on CD in "Nemesis Days" Japan Ultimate Edition, instead of Intermission II this time.

Welcome back, I was wondering if you had left us for good.

I saw Stratovarius live yesterday and they didn't play Oblivion. Timo said that record company hadn't told them about publishing the song so they hadn't rehearsed it.

Another thing I wonder is that even both Stratovarius and Tarja are Finnish there's no single consert booked in Finland

I really like Oblivion but it sounds a little weird to me. Maybe it's the new style, but it seems like a Stratovarius cover of another song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYph9C5lTqQ

The part at 1:14-1:16, as well as the backing vocal track during the chorus, make it sound like this song was written for someone other than Timo to sing.

It has to be Lauri.

I need a few more listens to build an opinion. It is very different from the previous songs.

I'm also going to say Lauri. Just sounds like a Lauri song. It could be Matias but it doesn't sound quite guitar-y enough, if that makes any sense.

Guys, would you mind helping me with the lyrics of Oblivion: Here´s what I've got so far:

Stratovarius - Oblivion

I looked at myself in silence
and kept denying that you're already gone
Isolated in the darkness for too long
I'm still holding you before
you fade into oblivion

I can't save you, in the end we'll fall apart
forgive me now, no matter how
but I die you carry on
please be waiting we'll meet again beyond the stars
I'm not afraid to embrace the end
time has come to let you go
(to oblivion)

I'm tired to fight this sadness on my own
I have waited way too long
to stand up and move on
Your decaying echo haunts me all the time
I'm afraid to say the last goodbyes
'cos you will be forever gone
(to oblivion)

I can't save you, in the end we'll fall apart
forgive me now, no matter how
but I die you carry on
please be waiting we'll meet again beyond the stars
I'm not afraid to embrace the end
time has come to let you go

And leave the world behind
I still believe you're within me in memories
you'll be shining like a star
and lighten up the skies
I still believe you're within me in memories
'cos you were my only one

I can't save you, in the end we'll fall apart
forgive me now, no matter how
but I die you carry on
please be waiting we'll meet again beyond the stars
I'm not afraid to face the end
time has come to let you go

Now it's time to let you go
to oblivion

I may have some mistakes throughout the whole lyrics but the parts that are underlined are the ones that i'm not sure about the words

Great, thanks a lot!
Here's what I gathered instead, but not sure myself:

I locked myself in silence

forgive me now, no matter how hard I try, you carry on
leaves me waiting, we'll meet again beyond the stars

you'll be shining like a star and lightning up the skies

What percent of Strato songs have the word "time" in them? It has to be at least 50.

Having Last Shore and Hallowed finally on a digital quality makes me so happy. Those tracks were only included on vinyl. A couple of users have digitalized them but they were very loss. Now both have a proper official digital quality!

This is a good album. Nice to have the bonus tracks together, the new songs sound great, and the orchestral versions of the 4 older songs are incredible. Brilliant work, Strato.
