I believe that's because he allows the musicians more room to add their own creativity. From every interview that I've read, he seems to welcome contributions to his writing, not resist it.

And according to the credits, both Higher We Go and Deep Unknown were co-written by Kotipelto and Kupianen!

in Higher We Go it seems that Kupiainen was in charge of the details and solos, but the main melody I would say that came from Kotipelto.

In Deep Unknown is a bit different because according to the credits Kupiainen wrote all the music himself, and Koti only the lyrics.

btw, I like the song. I'm nos as impressed as I was with Deep Unknown, I think it's because it really doesn't sound like something fresh. but it's not bad at all.. I'm really looking foward on listening to the other songs. King Of Nothing sample sounds sooooo good...

I like Kotipelto's writing, I have always found it to be more straight forward.

Don't get me wrong I also love Tolkki's writing, I'm just a fan of both for different reasons.

It sounds so....happy. It does completely scream that Kotipelto wrote a good chunk of it. It reminds me a lot of Sleep Well, which is a damn good thing.

I haven't heard the song, but the lyrics sound kind of DragonForce-ish... upbeat and noble. Which isn't bad if it's not overused. Kotipello wrote most or all of the Eagleheart lyrics, too, so here's hoping there are a few darker tracks on the album. (I'm looking at you, King of Nothing... )
