Easy choice for us, especially for me since I don't like Guns at all... But there will be a lot of people missing them.

Dude... that would be a HARD choice...
if buckethead were still in the band at least.

Chinese Democracy was a KILLER album. Loved that thing to death. And honestly, if you're a Power Metal fan, you should too, the layered vocals and instrumentation, orchestration, complexity of the composition, it was beautiful.

If any of you guys are guitar players going to that concert, try to meet Ron Thal. (Bumblefoot)
He is the most down to earth person ever....and an unbelievable musician. One of my friends drove down to his studio in New Jersey after arranging guitar lessons online a few years back before he was in that band. He didn't even want money for the lessons!!

Chinese Democracy=/=any other GNR ever.
Seriously, go listen to the studio version of "There Was a Time" (If you can find it anywhere, lives always sounds like shit on Youtube, because nobody can get good recording equipment in), it's heavenly.

And also, maybe it's possible to see them both, considering Axl's behavior of being always late... you can expect him to start the show at 02:00am after having seen the Strato show complete

(Seriously, last month his show here was expected for 21:00, he showed up at 00:30)

I've never liked Guns and Roses that much. Also, Koti is a great front man. Axl is a son of a bitch (no offense, is the truth)

No doubt Axl is a bitch.
But he's the biggest, craziest bitch of a frontman musics ever seen. He's also a fucking genius.
No, I'm not kidding, the composition on Chinese Democracy was genius caliber, as good or better than anything I've heard out of Power Metal. 15 years in the making and it shows.

Chinese Democracy was really not to my taste at all, I have to say.

If I was at Sweden Rock, I'd have a pretty simple choice to make :D

Yea I was gonna say that. I did not see them last time they were here, but I heard the show started at like 1 am. Saw them back in '93 tho and after Blind Melon finished we waited for over 2 hours for GNR to finally come out.

Might as well check out Gn'F'nR's at least for the entertainment value, and in the hopes of some authentic interpretations of Appetite's / either UYI's stuff. CD WAS a decent album at maximum after all. Rather a few good songs and that's it.

I've never seen Guns live though, and I've seen Stratovarius four times, so maybe Guns after all. You could always change to sheer quality if you got tired. :D

Without Buckethead, I'd def. choose Strato, but, it'd be hard to pass up ANY opportunity to see The Greatest Guitarist In Music History perform, let alone in Chinese Democracy (Which I thought brought out alot of his better elements)

Chinese Democracy was surely one of GN'R's best albums, bearing in mind we haven't heard of them in a long while. The only thing I hated about it was the delay it had :?

But putting this aside, I expected their live show to be at least "decent" enoguh for me. Besides, no matter how their performance it was, you see the new guitarrist and it's unavoidable to say "he may be excellent, but it's not Slash"

Seriously. The "Hired Guns" that Axl is bringing in on guitar at the leaders of their field in terms of talent. Buckethead, Robin Finck, Bumblefoot, and even (So I've heard), D.J. Ashba are all guitar virtuosos. Slash fit the role well, but he is under no stretch of the imagination a virtuoso.

HOWEVER.
The REAL attraction at Sweden Rock, should be Bigelf.
I saw them live for the third time on Sunday, finally got to meet some of the band members. They have the most bombastic, exciting live show I've ever seen.

Slash is one of the most critically acclaimed and in demand for session work guitarists out there .

Buckethead is one of the most talented MUSICIANS to ever walk to earth. He is an absolute freak of nature, his talents stretch to anything and everything even the most demented musician could think up. He is versatile through Country, Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz, Funk, and Avant Garde. He releases more groundbreaking music PER YEAR than some of the most celebrated artists in history have in their entire career and he just keeps going. He can play a heart wrenching rendition of Eddie Hazel's Maggot Brain, and the next minute, shred fast enough to make Yngwie Malmsteen or Timo Tolkki poop their pants. Even on an acoustic, he is a competent flamenco player. Even his mentor, Paul Gilbert, admits he knows next to nothing about actually playing flamenco (He made a flamenco-like song that's on youtube called Flamingo, but he doesn't know the real techniques).

Slash is not nearly talented enough to make good music by himself, as shown by the roaring success of Slash's Snakepit (Hint: He got consistently shown up by Keri Kelli near the end of the Snakepit's career).

When Slash's bands get dropped by record companies (Which they do consistently), the band is done, the bands for him are about business and money.
:x :x :x
Ignorance is the only excuse for thinking Slash could even come close to the guitar nirvana that is Buckethead.

Not comparing to bucket head, but I am saying that slash is skilled at certain parts of guitar playing and has been a big influence in music and is recognized by peers for his skills.

Critiques rate for skill, why would being rated as being skilled not mean that a person is skilled?

the session work that slash has done is enough as it is to say that slash is a virtuoso.

  Critics rate for skill.
Clearly THIS is why Kurt Cobain was so wildly successful, it was his versatile, technical guitar technique.

A critique has nothing to do with success; it has to do with someone being able to perform a skill.
I’m talking about peers and industry in guitar magazines and people in the guitar world that rate people on their guitar playing abilities, not music critics in general. Being voted on top guitar player lists by other guitar players is the context I am talking about. Peer acclaimed is a way to put it.

No critic ever said Kurt was a good guitar player, but they have called him a good songwriter.

In the context of what the guitar players are playing with guns and roses, they are not playing versatile guitar anyway so all the other styles a person can play is not a factor when no one will see the guitar player play those styles at a guns and roses concert.

Actually, I'd say Buckethead brought quite a bit of Diversity into Chinese Democracy. IE: "Sorry", "If the World", and "There was a Time"

I'm not saying Slash is like "the most virtuous guitarrist GN'R ever had", but he was the "image" (if you let me) of the group; and personally I think Axl is also an influential character in the history of the group, but let me say that without him GN'R would have been a lot better than they are today.

I'm expecting any kind of refusal about my comment, I honestly don't care because it's the truth :?

There was a time just has standard melodic guitar, not sure how that’s diverse and outside of anything guns and roses had done before or outside their areas of genre that they have previously touched with slash. It’s done well, but it’s not the genre diversity that I was thinking about.
