Stratovarius performing at ProgPower USA 2020!!!

Post by Empathica1928 »

North American fans, THEY'RE FINALLY COMING BACK!!!

https://vimeo.com/371039066

ProgPower's roster next year is already the greatest festival lineup I've ever seen (for my taste) and this is the cherry on the sweet metal sundae. When day 1 and 2 tickets go on sale I'll share a link here. There are only half a dozen tickets for days 3 and 4 remaining so grab them if you want them - Stratovarius is playing day 2 but you gotta experience all four days :)

I'll be there - it would be nice to say hi to the other Americans around these parts. Make plans now!!

Oh my god, even people in the ProgPower community are bitching about that. STFU, it's Queen songs, it'll be a fun set regardless.

 What bands are you excited about at Progpower? I think Rhapsody and Conception will be cool. Most of the other bands I don't know. Bands with names like "Thank You Scientist" sound like some real hipster bullshit.

It's a few states away from me, but Stratovarius performing in the USA is such a rarity, so I'll definitely consider going to this.

Honestly I'm excited for every band playing next year except maybe The Gathering and The Ocean. But every other act is something I'm excited about to some extent. Thank You Scientist is not 'hipster bullshit' and tbh I'm not interested in throwing around derogatory labels like that especially if I don't know the music. TYS is a very interesting, unique kind of prog music, with horns and a singer that doesn't really sound like anybody else in the genre. I don't know how to describe them better than that. Check out the song My Famed Disappearing Act for a taste, I suppose.

I'll be going all 4 days next year so if anybody is planning on attending, let me know! Also, you can browse the ProgPower USA Unofficial group on Facebook and people will inevitably be selling their tickets over the next 10 months because there are always circumstances popping up that prevent people from going. Also their forum on Ultimate-Metal is still used by some people to sell tickets. Good luck, you don't want to miss next year's fest, this is the greatest lineup I've ever seen them have.

Night Flight Orchestra, Turilli/Lione Rhapsody, NorthTale, Power Quest, Stratovarius, Witherfall, Shattered Skies - those are the bands I'm suuuuper excited about right now, definitely my biggest points of interest.

I guess we have different interests.

JK you should know me by now.

I'm a little out of touch with post-90s power metal so i'll try to familiarize myself with some of those bands.

Edit: I just heard a song by The Night Flight orchestra. It sounded like a mix of Deep Purple, Leningrad Cowboys, and Weird Al Yankovic. If this is your cup of tea, then maybe see you in Atlanta in 2021.

The opposite corner of the country from me :(

Eternal Tears of Sorrow as well! I guess they're sort of power. Haven't put out any records in a while, hope they do one soon!

I'm from New Jersey. Of course, that's actually more than just a "few" states away. Using a more reliable measurement, it's more like 13+ hours away by car.

I have some muscle, but not much, so it would probably be a lackluster display from me.

Anyways, I'm still not sure if I'm going to be able to go to this, even though I would like to.

Ok. I’m from PA and it would be a long drive. Just take a private jet while sipping champagne while you post on the strato forum.

I’m too poor to go to some fest five states away. Here I’m stuck with polka and beach boys cover bands. We can always hope for some pro quality video. :)

Former NJ resident here. What always gets me about driving to the deep South is how quickly you can get to Virginia and technically be in the South compared to how long the actual route is. Like that's when the states actually get big and it's a slog getting all the way through VA, then NC, and so on.

Back in the summer of 2011, when I was 14, my dad and I drove down to Virginia to buy an Ibanez RG1527. I remember looking forever for that guitar online, but had a lot of trouble finding the specific variant of RG1527 that I wanted. I remember that the trip took around 12 hours, round-trip, and that I was listening to Sonata Arctica's songs the whole way.

By the way, SentineLEX, I was that weird guy who sent you an over-long Facebook message a few years ago. I was really impressed with your keyboard skills that you showcased in this thread: I play keyboard pretty fast

Back then, I saw that you were in NJ, so I was like, "Wow! This guy lives pretty close to me, we like the same bands, and he's a keyboard badass! We should jam some time!" So, after I sent you my ridiculously long message, you sent me a reply about socks or something, and I was like, "Huh?"

Jesus Christ I’m old!! In 2011 I was 7 years into an alcohol binge. “I was 14....” I was 14 myself back in the 90s, going to church and playing tony hawk pro skater.

Oh! It all makes sense now. All I remember is that my message was stupidly long, because I didn't know how to keep things concise back then.

That’s cool!!! I can probably afford the tickets now more than ever. It is just, how would I get there from PA?!? Can’t take a plane and driving would be tiring as hell. I have dogs that can’t be left alone for very long. Such is life! Enjoy!!
